Having fun on Ben Yehuda Street on Saturday Night…by Kayla S.
After a restful and meaningful Shabbat in Jerusalem, we said Havdallah under the stars and got ready for a night of fun on Ben Yehuda street. Ben Yehuda street is a street closed to all traffic and full of fun shops and places to eat. We shopped for gifts for our families, walked around freely and saw a group of Korean people singing songs about Jerusalem in Korean! [Check out the picture on smugmug] That is when we realized how important Jerusalem is to so many different people around the world. While the people were singing, there were other people dancing-it was a very different experience! I have never seen that in New York!
I also used the time on Ben Yehuda street to bond with my new friends. We were able to talk, laugh and chat about what we like, things we do for fun and how we felt about being in Israel.

Going with 2 other schools is a great opportunity to make some real friendships
Dear 8th graders:
Your trip sounds great. Don’t forget to try some very special Jerusalem foods. One item in particular that you cannot get at home is called “Jerusalem Mixed Grill,” which is a mixture of meats in a pita. There is a small restaurant in downtown Jerusalem called Sima (which is kosher) which specializes in this dish. My only suggestion is that you finish eating the entire sandwich before you ask what is in it.
Enjoy your journey!
